Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a laser-based procedure used to permanently reduce or eliminate unwanted hair. The process involves the focused application of laser light to hair follicles on the skin. Laser light targets the melanin pigment in the hair follicle and is absorbed as heat energy. This heat energy damages the hair follicle, preventing hair regrowth.

There are different types of laser hair removal, and the effectiveness and results can vary depending on the laser technologies and devices used. Here are some commonly used types of laser hair removal:

  • Alexandrite Laser

Alexandrite laser hair removal is a frequently preferred laser technology for this procedure. The Alexandrite laser device operates at a wavelength of 755 nanometers, focusing on the melanin pigment in the targeted area. This laser effectively damages hair follicles, particularly in thicker hair. When laser energy reaches the hair roots, it disrupts the melanin structure and inhibits hair growth. This method is suitable for individuals with moderately fair skin tones and dark hair colors. Alexandrite laser hair removal is relatively comfortable due to the cooling system used during the procedure, and the risk of scarring is minimal. To achieve the desired results, it typically requires 5 to 8 sessions.
  • Diode Laser (Ice Laser)

Diode laser hair removal offers greater skin penetration compared to other laser types. While similar to Alexandrite laser hair removal, its wavelength is longer, typically around 810 nanometers. The diode laser can easily reach deep hair follicles. It's a suitable option for individuals with various skin tones and is effective for both coarse and fine hair. Diode laser hair removal is known for its speed and minimal discomfort during the procedure, making it a popular choice among both men and women.
  • Nd: YAG Laser

Nd: YAG laser hair removal is absorbed the least by melanin among different wavelengths, allowing it to be used on even the darkest skin tones. However, this type of laser is primarily used for vascular treatments due to its hemoglobin absorption. The procedure can be painful.

The laser hair removal process typically involves multiple sessions based on the hair growth cycle. It's generally recommended to treat hair during the active growth phase (anagen) for the best results. The effectiveness of laser hair removal can vary depending on an individual's skin type, hair color, hair density, and the treatment area.
