Laser Vascular Treatment

Laser vascular treatment is a method used to treat superficial veins, superficial veins, or deep veins on the skin. This procedure is performed by applying laser energy to the targeted blood vessels. Laser beams target the blood inside the targeted vessels, effectively neutralizing and closing the vessel walls.

Laser vascular treatment is typically performed in the following ways:

  1. Laser Photocoagulation: In this method, laser beams are applied to the targeted vessel, and the beams absorb the light coming from the blood inside the vessel. This causes the vessel to heat up and close. Laser photocoagulation is commonly used for the treatment of capillaries, superficial veins, and some deep veins.

  2. Laser-Assisted Sclerotherapy: In this method, laser energy is used to enhance the effect of a sclerosing agent injected into the targeted vessel. The sclerosing agent damages the vessel walls and leads to vessel closure. Laser beams strengthen the effect of the sclerosing agent, providing a more effective treatment. Laser-assisted sclerotherapy is often preferred for the treatment of capillaries and superficial veins.

  3. Laser Photothermolysis: In this method, laser beams target chromophore pigments in the targeted vessels. The beams provide energy to the pigments, causing the vessel wall to heat up. This results in the vessel collapsing and being absorbed by the body.

  4. Endovenous Laser Therapy: In this method, a thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein. Laser beams are delivered to the vein through the fiber, treating the inner surface of the vein. This method is commonly used for the treatment of larger veins. Local anesthesia may be used during the procedure, or sedation or general anesthesia may be required for more extensive treatments. After the procedure, temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, or bruising on the skin may occur, but these are generally transient.

Laser vascular treatment closes and treats veins, reducing the visibility of veins or causing them to disappear completely. As a result, the skin may have a smoother and more homogeneous appearance after the procedure. However, the outcomes of the procedure can vary depending on the size of the vessels, skin type, and individual responsiveness to treatment.
