Endodontics

Endodontics is a branch of dentistry concerning internal structures of teeth, dental pulps and root canals. The pulp located inside the teeth consists of veins, nerves and connective tissues. Endodontics, in this regard, concerns with diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pulp diseases and dental infections.

Endodontic treatment is generally called “root canal therapy” and performed when pulp of a tooth is infected or damaged. The reason is that infection of pulp may cause pain, sensitivity and loss of teeth. Endodontic treatment involves removal of pulp as well as cleaning, shaping and filling of the root canals. Dental infection is taken under control and the tooth is protected thanks to this procedure.The endodontic treatment is generally required for conditions such as toothache, infection of pulpa secondary to tooth decay, dental traumas, tooth fractures or fissures. Treatment process is carried out to reduce the pain, take the infection under control and protect the teeth. The endodontists are the dentists who received special training to analyze and treat internal structure of the teeth.

The endodontic treatment is an important part of modern dentistry and is an effective method to ensure tooth recovery. However, in some cases, the tooth may need to be extracted in the event it cannot be saved. Thus, early diagnosis and treatment increase the success of the endodontic treatment, allowing to healthily protect the teeth.
