What is Genital Aesthetic?

Genital aesthetic is the term used for surgical procedures aimed at enhancing the cosmetic and functional aspects of sexual organs in both genders. Among the most commonly sought aesthetic surgeries, genital aesthetic procedures are particularly popular among women. There are various reasons why women opt for genital aesthetic procedures. Typically, needs related to labial, vulva, and clitoral repair become prominent, especially during youth. In women who have given birth, the main reasons for genital aesthetic needs often include vaginal width, birth scars, imbalances in the inner and outer labia, as well as sagging and discoloration.

Genital aesthetic surgeries are performed to correct structural abnormalities in the genital area. These structural issues may be congenital or arise from surgeries undergone later in life or problems during vaginal childbirth.

Genital aesthetic is not exclusive to women. In recent years, aesthetic procedures like penis enlargement have become popular among men. However, since these procedures mostly encompass women's desires, they are also referred to as vaginal aesthetic procedures.

What Constitutes the Genital Structure?

  • Vagina
  • Outer lips (labia majora)
  • Inner lips (labia minora)
  • Hymen
  • Top area of the lips (mons pubis)
  • These portions form the basic structure of the genital area.

The deformations developed in these parts of the genital area not only cause an aesthetically poor appearance, but they also cause insecurity, sexual inadequacy, dissatisfaction or psychological problems in women. However, women cannot clearly express their aesthetic concerns even though a significant number of women are aware of them. Moreover, women who cannot express themselves comfortably seek solutions on their own and experience serious stress. But these problems can be easily overcome today. Also, the mental and physical condition of the person can be easily improved.

How Is Genital Aesthetics Performed?

Genital deformations can cause functional or aesthetic concerns in women over time. This consequently triggers feelings such as embarrassment, shyness and lack of self-confidence. Functional or visual problems of the genital organs can cause women to avoid emotional relation or sexuality. It also negatively affects their marriage and creates communicational problems between couples. But all these problems can be solved with genital aesthetic procedures.

The genital aesthetic procedures help women to get the desired appearance on vulva or vaginal area. It can also provide solutions for the following problems.

For example:

  • Congenital deformations,
  • Lack of young appearance of the vaginal area due to old age,
  • Sagging caused by weight gain and loss,
  • Loss of shape and aesthetic in the vagina due to multiple births,
  • Excessive growth of vaginal lips caused by deformations in the vulva,
  • Deformations caused by difficult normal birth,
  • Loss of sexual satisfaction and vaginal aesthetic caused by incisions made on the vagina during birth,
  • Problems such as uterine prolapse and urinary incontinence due to abnormalities in the urinary bladder.

Which Structural Problems Can Occur in the Genital Area?

  • Deterioration in the quality of sexual life (pain during sexual intercourse, difficulty in intercourse, inability to orgasm, etc.)
  • Problems experienced while urinating (feeling pain while urinating, difficulty in urinating, etc.)
  • Frequent vaginal infections
  • Discomforts due to excessive contact of the vaginal lips with the outside
  • Aesthetic concerns

Genital area surgeries are performed in order to resolve the above-mentioned problems. At this point, a very careful evaluation should be carried out when deciding on the surgery. Because the source of the above-mentioned problems may not always originate from structural abnormalities in this area. The underlying cause should be evaluated and investigated in detail, and, if necessary, the surgery should be planned and decided.

What Are Genital Aesthetic Surgeries, How Are They Performed?

  • Vaginoplasty (Vaginal Tightening):

Vagina enlarges due to normal birth, frequent sexual intercourse, aging and other gynecological interventions. Enlargement in the vagina causes numbness and orgasm problems during sexual intercourse. The process of making the vagina tight and narrow again with a surgical procedure is called vaginoplasty.

  • Labioplasty (Inner Lip Aesthetic):

Inner lips, called “labia minora”, are congenital and grow with puberty as well as droop and become irregular. Over time, they may appear aesthetically bad and can take an uncomfortable form especially when sitting.

Sometimes one of the lips may be longer or has a different structure than the other, which is called “labial asymmetry”.

The surgical correction of these conditions is called labioplasty.

  • Labia Majoraplasty (Outer Lip Aesthetic):

The large or drooping lips, which are on the outside of the genital area and covered with hair, can cause some aesthetic problems. In this case, large and drooping (outer) lips are surgically corrected by making them smaller with an operation. The large lips are surgically reduced, resulting in more stretched and smooth appearance with the labia majoraplasty surgery.

  • Clitoral Hood Reduction (Surgical Correction of Clitoris):

The clitoris is the main organ that provides sexual pleasure and orgasm in women. There may be sagging, wrinkles or excess tissue over skin of the clitoris along with the excess in the inner lips in some women. Swelled, wrinkled or dark skin folds around the clitoris can psychologically affect women and cause a lack of self-confidence during sexual intercourse. In this regard, “clitoral hood reduction” is the operation performed for surgical correction of the wrinkled and excessively swelled structures on the clitoris and providing aesthetically better appearance.

  • Perineoplasty (Perineal Repair):

It is the process conducted for aesthetic correction of the area between vagina and anus, called the perineum, and the removal of birth suture marks.

  • G-Shot Augmentation (G Spot Augmentation):

The G spot is located inside the female genitalia, closely to the urinary tract. This sensitive area increases sexual arousal and makes orgasm easier. However, the G spot is not in the same place in every woman.

G-spot augmentation surgery, in this regard, is the process of enlarging this area using fat and fillers. In this way, it becomes easier for women to have an orgasm. As the area to which penis will touch becomes larger, sexual orgasm is more easily reached.

  • O-Shot Augmentation (O Spot Augmentation):

In the O-Shot procedure, PRP solution is prepared with the blood taken from the patient. Plasma with intense healing power is injected into the erogenous zones. This plasma is obtained by condensing the healing cells in the blood of the patient in a laboratory environment. The obtained dense liquid is injected into certain areas of the vagina and clitoris. Therefore, the sensitivity in the vagina increases and the woman gets more pleasure from sexuality.

  • Monsplasty (Mons Pubis Reduction, Pubic Lift):

Pubis region is the upper part of the labia majora in women. In this process, also known as “Mons Pubis Reduction” or “Pubic Lift”, the swelling in the mons pubis area is reduced and irregular hangings are corrected.

  • Hymenoplasty (Temporary or Permanent Repair of Hymen):

Main function of the hymen is to protect the reproductive system during puberty. However, it is directly associated with virginity in many societies. Thus, the damaged hymen can be sutured with the hymenoplasty procedure. Bleeding occurs again in the first sexual intercourse after repair of the hymen. The repair of hymen is not visible or evidence from the outside or during sexual intercourse. So, it is a safe procedure. Patients recover in a short time after the surgery.

  • Labia Majora Augmentation (Fat Filler or Hyaluronic Acid Filler Applications to Outer Lips):

Fat injection can be performed for structural or age-related depressions and wrinkles in the outer lips, resulting in a well-rounded appearance. Labia Majora Augmentation is the process of giving the fat taken from another part of the body by “liposuction” method to the outer lips using special cannulas. In this way, large and wrinkled lips can have a plumper and livelier appearance. Outer lips can also be filled with hyaluronic acid injection, providing a plumper appearance, too.

  • Genital Bleaching:

The vagina is an aesthetic organ as well as a functional one, and color changes may dissatisfy women. Genital darkening that occurs with age or hormonal effects over time is treated with the application of vaginal bleaching. A darkened vagina and genital area negatively affect many issues, from wearing the desired bikini to the comfort of sexual intercourse. Vaginal bleaching procedure is performed with several methods. These may include creams, laser or mesotherapy.

How is the Recovery Process of Genital Aesthetic Procedures?

Genital aesthetic surgeries are short procedures that usually take 1 to 2 hours. The patients are discharged on the same day following the surgery. It is normal for the patients to feel swelling, redness, pain and tenderness on the relevant areas following the procedure. The physician may prescribe painkiller after the surgery in order to alleviate these complaints.

The healing process varies depending on many different parameters, from the patients’ overall health condition to the performed procedure. However, recovery process usually begins from the second week. The recovery process can also take up to 6 weeks. It is very important for the patients to keep the surgical area dry, clean and uninfected during the recovery process. Moreover, loose and cotton underwear should be preferred so that it does not compress and irritate the genital area. The patients should avoid sexual intercourse for at least 6 weeks after the surgery. Also, intense exercise should be avoided for 6 to 12 weeks. It is also important to pay special attention to nourish well in order for the recovery process to progress faster.

What Are the Complications of Genital Aesthetic Surgeries?

Although vaginal aesthetic surgeries are performed successfully and faultlessly, there are some risks. The patients should prefer an experienced and well-qualified physician for vaginal aesthetic surgeries.

Success of the vaginal surgeries also depends on the patients’ compliance with postoperative care and recommendations. If the patients pay special attention to the physician's recommendations and follow-up visits in the postoperative period, the risk of experiencing any postoperative complication decreases.

When vaginal aesthetics surgeries are performed by a successful surgeon, the risk is very low.

However, the basic risks that may arise are as follows:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Intestinal damage
  • Pain during sexual intercourse due to overtightened vagina
  • Postoperative dissatisfaction.
