Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun was born in Samsun in 1970 and successfully completed his secondary education at Istanbul Işık High School. He began his medical education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1994, graduating with the title of Medical Doctor in 1995. He completed his general surgery residency at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery in 2000.

Developing an interest in Obesity and Metabolic Surgery during his years as an assistant, Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun became the first person in Turkey to present a graduation thesis in this field titled "Adjustable Silicone Gastric Band Application in the Treatment of Morbid Obesity." He gained international recognition with his first international article in Obesity Surgery journal during his first year as an assistant, showcasing original clinical prospective-retrospective studies.

Enhancing his knowledge and experience through education abroad, particularly at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) and Weill Cornell Medical School in the USA, Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun conducted clinical studies in General Surgery, Obesity and Metabolic Surgery, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery, and Diabetes. His international prestige in the field of obesity surgery has placed Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun among the leading bariatric surgeons worldwide.

To fill a significant gap in the field of Obesity and Metabolic Surgery in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun established the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery department at Bezmialem Vakif University and took on the role of faculty. He leads extensive studies in this field.

Achieving success in his academic career, Coşkun obtained the title of Associate Professor in 2010 and the title of Professor at Sanko Vakif University in 2015. Additionally, he completed the BAU Executive MBA program in 2021-2022, further developing his leadership skills in the health sector.

While sharing his knowledge and experiences through medical education at Bezmialem Vakif University, Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun also provides consultancy services to health companies, supporting developments in the sector.

Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun, known for his operations in the field of obesity surgery and societal awareness initiatives, is a member of prestigious scientific associations such as the Turkish Surgical Association (TCD), Turkish Obesity Surgery Association (TOSS), Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgery Association (ELCD), and International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). He also serves as the head of the Education and Research Commission of the Turkish Obesity Surgery Foundation.

His book, titled "Obezite Kaderiniz Değil" (Obesity is Not Your Destiny), aims to increase awareness about obesity in society. Moreover, a guidebook on obesity surgery authored by Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun will be published in the near future.

Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun, with valuable contributions to the scientific world, provides academic and clinical consultancy services to important companies such as Ethicon EMEA B&M, Ethicon Turkey B&M, Medronic Turkey, and Baxter, contributing to the development of the health sector.
